Djanogly City Academy achieves ‘outstanding’ for sixth form and ‘good’ in all other areas in new Ofsted report
Djanogly City Academy has been praised for its ‘outstanding’ sixth form in a new inspection report.
Ofsted’s latest report has rated the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management of the school all as ‘good’ and its sixth form provision as ‘outstanding’.
Andy Smith, Principal, Djanogly City Academy, said: “I am so proud of our staff, sixth formers and students all of whom deserve this incredible acknowledgement of their hard work, dedication and achievements. Our school serves a wonderfully diverse and talented community. To achieve such high praise is nonetheless quite extraordinary.”
At Djanogly City Academy, the key focus is to ensure that each pupil regardless of background or ability has the chance to reach their full potential.
Across the school, which serves a high proportion of young people who speak English as a second language, the report highlights that pupils achieve well in a range of subjects.
Inspectors found that courageous, determined leadership has been highly effective in improving many aspects of the school, which has high expectations for its pupils.
The curriculum is broad and ambitious. Tailored support ensures students who have special educational needs and disabilities succeed. The report adds that pupils begin to develop their aspirations and they start to believe in their limitless potential.
Inspectors also found that pupils feel safe and valued and there is a caring, inclusive culture. For many students, the report notes, the recently launched Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form opens doors that were once thought closed.
The sixth form, the report adds, provides a transformative environment which enables students who might not thrive elsewhere to excel and achieve remarkable outcomes. Alongside academic rigour, sixth formers also gain life skills and deep subject knowledge.
Most staff understand the challenges of the community they serve and appreciate leaders’ strong support for their workload and wellbeing.
Mark Mallender, Chief Executive Officer, Djanogly Learning Trust, added: “I feel so proud of our students and staff at Djanogly City Academy. I am absolutely thrilled that their hard work and significant achievements have been recognised in this latest glowing Ofsted report.”
Djanogly City Academy is part of Djanogly Learning Trust and has more than 1,200 pupils aged 11 to 18 years-old based at two sites on Sherwood Rise and Gregory Boulevard. At the school’s last inspection in 2018, it was graded ‘good’.
Around 150 students attend Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form, which offers 20 A Level subjects and opened in September 2022.
